It may be however that authority for this expenditure has altready baan sovered.

In your letter 351336 of the 26th February to kr. 7.7. Xavies you authorized an expenditure of £145,313 ɔn water supplies. Details of this estimated expenditure were given in a letter from Mr. Kenriak of the 28th January a copy of which Mr. Davies sent to you in a letter dated 2nd February (referance 59024/2/45). of this £145,313 I understand that there is still an unexpended balance of approximataly £35,000. The purchase af boring plant (22,700) was not specifically mentioned in Mr. Kenrick's letter nor of course the natual cost of the work (24,300). You may think however that the authority given in your letter referred to above for an expenditure up to 2146,000 can be taken to cover the expenditure of 25,000 for which the Governor now aska.

As unfortunately there has already been a delay in dealing with this matter here I should be most grateful to you for m early reply and for the return of the memorandum.

Yours sincerely,

(Sgd.) A. M. RUSTON
